THE DOLOMITES, WITH A LOCAL PERSPECTIVE

Dolomites Ski Safari: How It Works, Skiing Level and Where to Stay

A ski safari is a journey through different parts of the mountains, with the route connecting the days. In the Dolomites, that can mean lift-served pistes, changing valleys, a favourite lunch stop and perhaps a night in a rifugio. The important question is how the journey should work for your group.

What do we mean by an on-piste ski safari?

Our private on-piste ski safaris use prepared pistes and lift connections, with road transfers where the agreed itinerary needs them. They are different from ski touring with climbing skins or a backcountry traverse. Tell us if you are looking for downhill skiing, snowboarding or a separate specialist activity so we can discuss the right experience.

Do you need to be an expert?

Confidence, control and stamina matter more than a label. Tell us which pistes you comfortably ski, how you handle steeper or changing snow and how long you like to spend on the mountain. We consider the least confident member when discussing a private group itinerary. A demanding circuit is not automatically the right choice for everyone.

Choose between one hotel base and changing accommodation

A single hotel base makes packing easy and can suit families or mixed interests. A journey between properties can offer a stronger sense of travelling through the mountains. Neither format is automatically better: starting points, road connections, luggage and the pace of your group determine which feels comfortable. We discuss these before proposing the days.

Make a rifugio night part of the story

An overnight ski safari can include Rifugio Lagazuoi at 2,752 metres, with dinner above the valleys and another day on snow. Our photograph shows an example of its accommodation. Room availability, shared bathrooms, access and luggage arrangements need to be understood in advance. A mountain refuge offers a different experience from a valley spa hotel.

What is arranged, and what is included?

Your proposal should distinguish private guiding from accommodation, lift passes, equipment, food, drinks and transfers. We help coordinate agreed arrangements with the relevant providers; their availability, costs and booking conditions are confirmed separately. Tell us if you have already booked your hotel or equipment, so the plan fits what is in place.

Allow room for mountain conditions

Wind, visibility, piste conditions and lift operations can change the practical route. A good itinerary leaves room to adapt rather than treating a list of famous names as a promise. We discuss alternatives and sensible connections around your actual holiday base. Official operating information remains important on the day.

Start with the people, then choose the route

Send your travel dates, hotel or preferred valley, number of guests, skiing levels and the rhythm you enjoy. Include any non-skiers, children or special interests. From there we can discuss a private ski safari that combines the mountains with the right places to pause, eat and spend time together.

Make the advice personal

Tell us your dates, accommodation and who is travelling. We will discuss private guided days and the help that makes sense for your holiday.
