THE DOLOMITES, WITH A LOCAL PERSPECTIVE

Where to Stay for a Dolomites Ski Safari: Val di Fassa, Alta Badia or Val Gardena?

The best hotel base is the one that works for your actual holiday. A beautiful room matters, but so do the first lift, the last connection, the people who are not skiing and the way you want to spend the evenings.

Val di Fassa: start with your village and lift access

Canazei is our home base and a useful starting point for discussing private days in the surrounding mountains. Val di Fassa includes different villages and access points, so a valley name alone does not settle the logistics. Share the property you are considering and we can discuss how it connects with your preferred ski days.

Alta Badia: connect skiing with mountain hospitality

Alta Badia is worth considering when changing pistes, mountain lunches and village time are important to your group. The exact location still matters: check access from the accommodation, arrangements for non-skiers and the return from the routes you would like to explore. We can help connect the choice of base with your itinerary.

Val Gardena: consider the whole group

Val Gardena offers another base to discuss around its mountain access and village settings. Think about whether everyone wants to leave together each morning, whether anyone needs rental fitting or instruction, and what the non-skiers will enjoy. A practical location for one group may be less suitable for another.

One base or an itinerary between hotels?

Keeping one hotel can simplify luggage and evenings for families. Changing accommodation can make the ski safari feel more like a journey. Before choosing, consider your arrival and departure, the amount you want to pack, the comfort you expect and the time available. Any luggage transfers need to be agreed rather than assumed.

Where does Cortina fit?

A day around Cortina or a longer extension can be discussed as part of your journey, but it should fit realistic travel connections. Do not select a hotel solely because all the famous ski areas appear on the same regional map. We work from the actual property, access and time you have.

Questions to ask before booking accommodation

Check the room arrangement, meal plan, spa or pool access, children’s needs, parking or pickup point and distance to your practical starting place. Tell us if ski-in/ski-out access or a private bathroom is essential. For a rifugio overnight, discuss mountain access and the different comfort expectations separately.

Let the itinerary inform the booking

If your accommodation is not booked yet, send a shortlist with your dates and budget preferences. If it is already booked, send the exact property. We can then discuss private guiding and additional arrangements around that base instead of asking you to fit a fixed itinerary.

Make the advice personal

Tell us your dates, accommodation and who is travelling. We will discuss private guided days and the help that makes sense for your holiday.
